Hi, this is the first message to my garmin hacking project mailing list. If you don't want this info, let me know and I'll take you off the list. In the past two week I have found the first clue about the limits. In the GPS45 code I see soemthing like: if(numberA>18000.0) 3dsatus=off; if(numberA<-1200.0) 3dsatus=off; if(numberB>514.0) 3dsatus=off; if(numberB>46.3011) 3dsatus=off; I wonder what numberA and number B are all about. 18,000 meters is 59,055 ft. 46.3011meters/sec is 90.00213 knots 514 meters/sec is 999.13 knots -1200 meters is -3937 ft Now I'm considering makeing a new ROM with some of the limits changed. I may also change the globe. I'm thinking a spining smily face. For thouse that don't know. My test unit has a broken display so my test will be based on the output messages. That means I'll need a PC that I can get to speeds above 90kts. A bit about fonts... There are 8 fonts and the 8th font simply contains the arrow used on the "road" display to show you which direction your waypoint is. This font contains 25 arrows and one diamond. All the fonts have a diamond as undefined codes. The 7th font is the one used with the "GARMIN 45" message. It is a limited font that contains: 0124589 ACEGILMNPQRSTUX Anyone have nay idea why it needs the extra characters? 9 CELQTUX All the other chars are used in the GPS40/45/80/100/120 -tim http://www.abnormal.com/~thogard GPS, VW and Usenet topics.
